The death of George Floyd has left us in mourning. Even though he wasn’t blood related, he still feels like a part of our family. Just like the rest of the people whose names have unfortunately been written on the dreadful list of unarmed black people killed by the police. We want to make it very clear that we are pro black. Being pro black doesn’t make us anti-white. It makes us pro-justice and anti-anything that opposes justice including racism, discrimination, and police brutality.
I didn’t know what to do with my emotions. As a black man in America who is raising black children in America, my heart is heavy for the reality that I face daily and that my children will one day have to face. The reality is that even though we never asked to be here, we are here and we are hated and mistreated for reasons far beyond us.
After taking a break from writing, I felt that it was the healthiest way to express my emotions. This piece is called “A Letter To George Floyd.” We are sending prayers up for the Floyd family and we ask that you do the same. Rest In Power George.
